A vitamin is an organic compound or organic chemical compound which is required as a nutrient in small quantities by an organism is called as vitamin. When it does not provide in sufficient quantities by the particular organism then must be obtained from the diet.
The term vitamin was derived from “vitamine” from a scientist in a combination of word by Casimir Funk from vital and amine. It is suggested that the organic micro nutrient prevents beriberi and other dietary deficiency disease are due to chemical amines as it was proven incorrect and it was shortened to vitamin.
Vitamins are classified as water soluble or fat soluble as there are 13 vitamins, 4 fat soluble (A,D,E, and K) 9 water soluble (8 B vitamins and Vitamin C) water soluble vitamins are easily dissolve in water and are exerted from the body, Water soluble vitamins are synthesized by bacteria. Fat soluble vitamins are absorbed through lipids and lead to hypervitaminiosis than the water soluble vitamins.
Vitamins are essential components in our body for a normal growth and to take development in the multi cellular organism, vitamins and nutrients are required to prevent from disorders such as skin, bone and muscle. These are some serious reaction occurs when a child born with deficiency diseases lack in vitamins and nutrients. Most of these vitamins are obtained from consuming food and other source like vitamin D is obtained from ultraviolet ray from the sun.
